The 2017 CPSC rule added DINP, DIBP, DPENP, DHEXP, and DCHP to the permanent restrictions and removed the interim restrictions on DIDP and DnOP.

Washington's Safer Products for Washington program began enforcing its first product restrictions in 2025, including restrictions on intentionally added ortho-phthalates in certain fragrance products and a 1,000 ppm limit for ortho-phthalates in vinyl flooring.

At the federal level, the U.S. EPA released final TSCA risk evaluations in December 2025 for five phthalates: BBP, DBP, DCHP, DEHP, and DIBP. EPA identified unreasonable risks to workers under specific conditions of use and environmental risks for four of the five chemicals.
